Wildlight: Donk Boys

Martin and Thomas, better known as 'Donk Boys' have been making some glitchy, unique, bleeped out Techno like no one else these past few years. Their sound is very hard to define and like most house nowadays, it ranges from Deep Tech to Electro-House, and everything in-between. The pair refer to themselves as "Two mentally okay guys from Malmo, who sometimes make not so mentally okay music." With a mind-set like this it was no surprise when they announced that their lattest EP was to be released on none other than Claude Von Stroke's Dirtybird. The EP was released in April entitled 'Sucker Punch' and yes, it's completely out of control. Fly over to Beatport for the rest of their wacky productions.

Voice, piano and some wind instruments all chopped to hell, thrown over a catchy kick and hat line with a Donk Boys bass spin on it

Huge bass bouncing throughout with deep voices, loud cymbals, and always a huge kick. Very Progressively minimal

Donk Boys - Kaav (Jan Driver Remix)
Strong driving bass, some beeps, clicks, pops, and catchy symbol sounds. A ridiculously heavy version of this track

Wildlight: Bad Dog

The abundance of bassline influenced music these days is unabashed and thriving, but with this comes a steaming handful of artists that continue to push out cookie cutter type tunes that leave one asking, "another one like that?..why?". Today you need not worry because as you might already know, you arrived at the right place knowing that you will only see the few that we absolutely feel put out true quality in this sound. Despite popular garb describing much more than music, we have been and are continually impressed with the production efforts of the UK based madman, Paul Kelevra. Landing original tracks and remixes on the Beatport Electro House charts one after another, he's showing that variety of sound has a place in his bag of tricks. With tracks like 'Grab Ya Funkstick' & 'Herez Another One' packing heat for Lee Mortimer's Wearhouse Music and EPs such as his 'Clean Jeans' effort with Los Angeles based Whiskey Pete on James Amato's prolific Potty Mouth Music, Kelevra showcases bass rhythm with extra punchy kicks and unforgettable hooks. Gaining professional support from such big wigs as Tommie Sunshine, Armand Van Helden, Drop The Lime, Will Bailey, Malente, and DJ Bam Bam, has definitely indicated that it doesn't look like the man is ready to stop his full frontal assault as the Bad Dog of bassline. Don't forget to stop by Beatport and grab his past and present workings, they're sure to get you off your ass and onto the dancefloor.

Kelevra - Grab Ya Funkstick (Original Mix)
Smashing! One of Kelevra's first bounces, and a clever one at that

Liam Vizzle - That Banana Track (Kelevra Remix)
A bouncy version of the already bouncy original, with a pulsing bassline and unforgettable stabs

This one is huge! An ace working sure to make any dancefloor go absolutely nuts!

Wildlight: Tom EQ

Tom EQ is turning some heads in the Electro-House scene as he properly showcases his unique style through glitchy voices and chunked-up basslines. Tom gets props from the biggest names in the game, and sells his records through the most talented labels in the genre. Just to name a few: Warehouse, Jack Union, Jack Knife, and his new Ep featuring two tracks, 'Shock Out' and 'Tell Dem' with a remix from the original bass-head and MildWild favorite, Will Bailey, was just released on 'Gung Ho! Recordings'. His sound is hard to put a name on but,

"...whatever you want to call it, it's music for the dancefloor that doesn't take itself too seriously." - Tom EQ

Enjoy these killer tunes , then make sure to check the new music on his Myspace and over at Beatport!

Free track off Tom's myspace with some sliced up Estelle vocals sure to make any club bounce properly

Jak-Z & Scott Cooper - Move Ya (Tom EQ Remix)
Voices chopped to bits, piano sample, huge kick. Simple but heavy.

Jak-Z & Tom EQ - Killa (Original Mix)
Squishy Bassline and great vocals, along with a 50's piano sample. 'Killa' tune.

Bill Eff - Warp (Tom EQ Remix)
Great accapella with a funky, stabbing basement-bass riff. Personal favorite.

WildLight:JokersOfTheScene_ "It began... In Canada..."

Ottawa's Bob and Doug McKenzie (more familiarly recognized as Jokers of the Scene) were just part-time party DJs not too long ago, when off sprung a series of extra potent dance floor bombs that were soon recognized by some entirely significant names in the game, subsequently sending this duo on their way to the big time. These guys aren't joking around with their hectic work schedule, which includes playing all over the world (the boys are currently touring Europe) and being signed to the ever meritable Fool's Gold Records imprint owned and operated by fellow friends A-Trak & Nick Catchdubs. Their most anticipated work of 2008, the 'Acid Bagg' EP was an enormous success and is still being played out across the globe in every club near and far. With amazing remixes completed for the likes of Brodinski, Water Lilly & St. Plomb, fellow Canadians Nacho Lovers, and the ever formidable Congorock, these dudes have made an astounding mark on the world. If all of this wasn't enough, they are also the founding fathers of the infamous Canadian Ipod Battles, which indeed look to be absolutely insane! Enjoy some of their finer workings, they're sure to make you groove on over to Beatport to support em! Enjoy!

Jokers Of The Scene - Baggy Bottom Boys (Jokers Of The Scene Remix)
Epic rave synth with a genius riff, a great take on their most intricate work without a doubt

Samples from Pharoah Monch's 'Simon Says' and some huge rippy bass, ideal for saying something without moving your mouth!

Scott Cooper & Andy George - Jump & Twist (Jokers Of The Scene Remix)

A toned down version of the ever so sly original by Cooper & George

Muscles - The Lake (Jokers Of The Scene Remix)

An insane rework including more wrath filled synth lines alongside epic breadowns

Wildlight : Calvertron

If someone were to describe music to you as, "Impossible to pigeonhole with all the excitement of a frog in a blender..", what might you start thinking? It remains unknown who the lyrical wizard behind this statement was, but it can be certain that they're definitely nailing the describing sound style of Alex Calver (more popularly known as Calvertron), former Twocker component alongside our favorite basshead (err.. Weazal), Will Bailey. For the past 6 year's he's churned out an impressive load of work to accommodate an equally impressive international tour schedule, resulting in the what can only be rendered as undeniably genius. With a solid home base at Jack Knife Records and a slamming new release on Lee Mortimer's Wearhouse Music, his sound has indeed made an imprint on today's future sound of dance music. As well as creating immense wobble fusion these days, the man behind it all is also extremely well versed in the production of Tech House, with such amazing tracks as "Magic Carpet", "Oh Ley" & "Opium" under his belt. With some solid releases in the pipeline through his Jack Knife Label and from MildWild favorite Potty Mouth Records, it's definitely time you keep a tab on this guy if you havn't already. Feed him some support and check him out over at Beatport, also drop by his myspace page to let him know how you feel.

The Prodigy - Thunder (Calvertron Boot)

An insanely punchy and rocking take on this Prodigy slammer, quite a big one

Wildlight : Mat Zo

As you might of noticed by now, we here at MildWild are generally not big fans of posting Trance music. I don't know what it is... is it the fast paced beats and flurry of synths that we are afraid to embrace, or do we just love Electro, Tech, and Progressive House too much to even venture into the enigma that is Trance? I would guess that it is the latter, but either way we are definitely missing out on some quality production. Jean-Baptiste recently introduced me to a Trance artist that definitely deserves some recognition, Mat Zo, also known as DJ Matan Zohar. This 19 year old prodigy resides in London, but has recently been performing all over Europe showcasing his skill. At this young age he has already remixed big names such as Tiesto, Andy Moor, and Markus Schulz, and has released music on enormous labels like Anjunabeats and Armada. He generally produces trance, but I'll also share with you some other tunes that exhibit this artist's versatility. Keep your eyes peeled because you'll definitely be seeing Mat Zo's name much more often.

*Please note : MildWild does not regularly post Trance ; Astounding music is indeed an exception as always, and you will continue to hear what sounds superb

-MildWild

Mat Zo - Lucky Strike (Original Mix)
Mat Zo - Synapse Dynamics (Original Mix)
This release can turn a Trance hater into someone that at least appreciates the genre. Synapse is a bit more progressive but both of these songs contain huge basslines, beautiful synths, and pounding drums

Erphun - 2wo Butterflies (Mat Zo Remix)
Powerful Tech House remix here, although there are definitely still Trance like elements within

Tyler Michaud & Mat Zo - Stubby (Original Mix)
Fantastic Electro House tune capable of popping any party
